Our 16-year-old Miriam urgently needed a head operation. Miriam has been part of our family at Upendo Children’s Village e.V. since she was a child, as she has no parents or relatives. Over the past two years, Miriam has been examined by various doctors because she kept having water in her head. The diagnosis: pressurised hydrocephalus caused by aqueductal stenosis. The effects were extremely stressful for her. This situation resulted in daily headaches, pressure in her head, circulatory problems and depression. A permanent situation would have destroyed her brain cells.
Thanks to a fundraising campaign on Betterplace, we were able to have an operation carried out at the Aga Khan Private Hospital in Mombasa in November 2023, which cost around 4000 euros. The operation was successful and Miriam is now better than ever.
A big thank you to all donors! You have given Miriam back a joyful life.
After two months of recovery at Upendo Children’s Village, Miriam was finally able to go back to school in the new year without headaches and dizziness. She is very happy to have her “head free again” for learning.
